£3 Million dream home on the market for only the third time since the 16th century

A 15th century mansion with some of the best views in the UK is up for sale for only the third time in history – for £3 MILLION.

Historic Harlyn House was the property of one family for over 400 years and was only sold for the first time in 1856 and then again in 1947.

The Grade II-listed property stands in five acres near Padstow, Cornwall and boasts breathtaking views of nearby Constantine Bay.

It has 31 rooms, 10,000sq ft of space and features dating from the medieval, Jacobean and Georgian periods.

The house, at the end of a 200-yard long driveway, was owned for four centuries by the Tregoye or Tregewe family.

They were public figures through the 15th Century, including Richard Tregew MP for Cornwall in 1448.

After him was was Gregory Peter, High Sheriff of Cornwall, whose initials are found on the gateposts.

His Henry Peter followed with a period of renovation and alteration which was continued by his son William.

William died in 1851 and his son John, who was also High Sherriff of Cornwall, had no heir and put Harlyn on the market for the first time in 1856.

It was bought by the Hellyar family who were gentleman farmers rather than landed gentry and they considered Harlyn a working farmhouse.

They owned it for 90 years before selling it in 1947 to Captain N P S Millar who renovated the house to what it is today.

Estate agents Lillicrap Chilcott said: “The setting of any property is often its most important attribute and it is indeed hard to find fault with the location of Harlyn House standing between Harlyn and Constantine Bay beaches.

“This is amongst the very best coastal settings anywhere in Cornwall with immediate access to a very beautiful and immensely sought after part of the north Cornish coastline with some of the county’s most celebrated beaches literally ‘on the doorstep’ which is perfect for all manner of seaside activities from rock pooling to surfing.”
