It might be coming up to the end of music festival season here in the UK for this year, but with there still a couple of big ones coming up this weekend (Creamfields and Reading/Leeds festival) I thought it might be a good time to talk about ‘real’ festival fashion. Now, don’t get me wrong; I love denim shorts, floral headbands and tassels as much as the next person but let’s be real; you’re in the UK, you’re in a field and the chances are the weather isn’t going to be great! Denim shorts are cold, and hard to dry if they get wet, headbands might blow off in the wind, and tassels and portaloos are not the greatest combination. Bearing this in mind, here are a few bits and pieces you should also have with you when heading to a festival.
Leggings
Cotton leggings may be the things that comfortable lazy days are made of, but they are absolutely essential at a festival. If they get wet, they dry quickly. If it’s chilly, you can wear them beneath shorts or trousers. They’re also easy to throw on beneath a top or dress, so you can spend less time deciding what to wear and get down to the main stage quicker.
Wellies or Walking Boots
These are obvious, but unless there’s been a very dry heat wave it will get muddy and with thousands of people walking the same paths it could get pretty difficult to walk around in! They may not be the most comfortable of footwear but trust me, you’ll really appreciate them when you see an abandoned Converse in a muddy puddle!
A Rain Coat
They’re not that attractive, they get stuck to you and you can feel like you’re in a bit of a strange cocoon but they do keep you dry, which makes them an absolute must in your festival packing! They’re much better than bringing a coat or an umbrella as they fold up small so they won’t take up too much space.
These are just three of the not so glamorous but necessary items that are essential for living in a field for a weekend but seldom feature in magazines!
