Snowy and icy conditions are set to hit the UK in the wake of Storm Babet, which brought dangerous gales and heavy rain to parts of Scotland.
A weather expert has warned that a cold front in the north could bring icy conditions to parts of the country, reaching central parts of the UK by the weekend.
The freezing condition could mean snowfall for parts of the country, with minor snow in parts of the Highlands and Grampians by next Tuesday.
Forecasters are predicting as much as 7cm of snowfall across the northwest and central Highlands as the following week progresses.
Jim Dale, a senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, told the Express: “There are early indications of colder/polar weather moving in early November, at least temporarily.
“If it confirms, then snow in the Highlands, Grampians, southern Uplands, Snowdonia, and the Pennine Tops is perfectly possible.
“At the same time, high winds and then freezing temperatures may well ensue as the polar air digs in, the icy conditions being mainly for the northern parts of the UK – perhaps a -6C or so for the Glens.”
