There are many people who have become pillars of the fashion industry, however, no one has left their mark quite like Karl Lagerfeld. On 10th September the legendary designer turns another year older (although how old, we can’t quite say as Lagerfeld lives by the maxim that one should never reveal one’s true age – fair enough!) Yet regardless of age, King Karl has become one of fashion’s most talked about figures.

With an instantly recognisable style, Lagerfeld has become somewhat of a caricature of himself, always seen with white powdered hair, structured white collar, and, of course, his iconic sunglasses. In keeping with his monochrome trademark is his beloved cat, Choupette. Having previously stated that he would marry the iPad-using, fluffy, white feline; Lagerfeld gives credence to his eccentric nature.
Yet his classic, black and white uniform doesn’t necessarily extend to the 20 or more collections he designs every year, with ethereal whites and pale pinks seen at CHANEL’s Haute Couture SS14 show, and vibrant florals at CHANEL Cruise 2014/5.

With a CV that is bursting at the seams–did you know he is also an illustrator, photographer, hotel designer, costume designer, and weight loss guru, amongst many, many other things–there seems to be no end to his talents. And so despite turning another year older, he is also another year greater: happy birthday, Kaiser Karl!
