Veggie gluten-free burgers have been withdrawn from freezers because they may contain gluten.
Quorn is recalling nearly 6,500 packs of it’s frozen Gluten Free Burgers because they contain undeclared gluten which is not mentioned on the label.
The burgers that come in packs of two and cost £2.49 and sold in Waitrose and Morrisons may pose a health risk to those allergic to or have an intolerance to gluten.
The 227g packs have a best before date of 30 November 2019.
The food manufacturer said: “On Wednesday 25 July, 2018, Quorn Foods recalled 6,496 packs of frozen Quorn Gluten-free Burgers 227g (bar code: 5019503027006; Date Code: 708049 BBE 30-NOV-19) from UK supermarkets Waitrose & Morrisons.
“The safety and wellbeing of our customers is our number one priority, which is why we initiated this recall as soon as it was confirmed that Quorn burgers containing gluten had been packed in gluten-free packaging.
“This was the result of human error, and we would like to assure our customers that no other Quorn products are affected.
“Customers with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance are advised not to consume the product with Best-before-end 30-NOV 19, and should return it to their retailer for a full refund.”
The Food Standards Agency said: “Quorn recalls a batch of its 2 Gluten Free Burgers packs because of undeclared gluten.
“This product contains gluten making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to gluten.
“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to gluten do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
“Quorn is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, who will tell their members about the recall.
“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.
“No other Quorn products are known to be affected.”
