The Best Last Minute Restaurants for Mother’s Day in London

Mothering Sunday is fast approaching, and what better way to treat your Mum than with a chance to get out of the house and celebrate with some great food (and a few glasses of Champagne, perhaps)?

We’ve picked a selection of the best restaurants offering truly special, last minute, dining experiences for Mums this weekend, which (at the time of writing) are still taking reservations for the weekend.

Mother’s Day Champagne Afternoon Tea at Sketch

London’s quirkiest restaurant space – Sketch – will offer a special Mother’s Day afternoon tea in the downstairs Gallery this weekend. Guests will be able to enjoy an outlandish selection of sandwiches, cakes, pastries and scones in the settings of the lurid pink dining room that’s decorated with wall-to-wall art from David Shrigley. In addition to a wide selection of teas, the option of a celebratory glass of champagne to accompany is also available. Mothering Sunday is fully booked, but why not make a weekend of it and book one of the few available tables for Saturday’s tea service?

Mother’s Day Set-Menu at Angler

One of our favourite seafood restaurants in London, Michelin-starred Angler will offer a specially created set-menu for Mother’s Day. At the top of the South Place Hotel, near Liverpool Street Station, Angler proudly showcases sustainable seafood from British waters, as well as high-quality seasonal and local produce. A number of meat dishes are also available, but the fish is the main draw. Priced at £55 for three-courses, Executive Chef Gary Foulkes’ Mother’s Day menu will include dishes such as tartare of Yellowfin tuna with Hass avocado, wasabi and shisho; Cornish sea bass with Jersey Royals, Dorset crab and soft herbs; Loch Duart salmon with Cornish mussels, smoked leeks and seaweed butter; complete with sweet treats – warm chocolate tart of Yorkshire rhubarb fool to finish.

The Mother’s Day menu at Angler will be available for lunch on Sunday 26th March. Further information can be found at anglerrestaurant.com.

Mother’s Day Tea at Thomas’s Café Burberry

Forget Breakfast at Tiffany’s, afternoon tea at Burberry is another specially concocted treat for Mother’s Day. Available at Thomas’s Café, the all-day dining destination within Burberry’s flagship store on Regent Street, the Mother’s Day afternoon tea is priced at £32 and includes a complimentary glass of rosé. An assortment of finger sandwiches and cakes will also be served on a grandiose cake stand. These include the likes of Victoria sandwich and lemon drizzle finger cakes; Thomas’s signature pale orange fondant fancy; and apple crumble choux bun. Tea, on the other hand, will include unlimited pots of Thomas’s Café 2014 2nd Flush Grande Reserve Darjeeling.

The Mother’s Day Tea at Thomas’s Café Burberry will be available on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th March. Further information can be found at uk.burberry.com.

Eneko at One Aldwych’s Weekend Brunch

One of 2016’s best new openings, Eneko at One Aldwych has recently launched a weekend brunch menu. The first London restaurant from Eneko Atxa, the three Michelin-starred chef behind Bilbao’s Azurmendi, Eneko at One Aldwych is a fairly casual space, serving some of the best Basque food on offer in the Capital. What’s more, Mums visiting for brunch this weekend will be offered a complimentary glass of cava, plus a free dessert from the restaurant’s dessert trolley. Serving a number of exciting dishes, the weekend brunch menu here features the likes of traditional crispy corn talo with heritage tomatoes; slow-cooked suckling pig shoulder brioche; Basque black pudding with Piquillo peppers; monkfish with garlic, chilli and parsley; and duck breast with Gernika peppers. Be sure to taste the restaurant’s ‘Golden Mary’ cocktail, too – a contemporary twist on a classic ‘Bloody Mary’ which uses sweet golden tomatoes, spiced vodka and celery foam.

Complimentary Margarita at Wahaca

Co-founded by MasterChef champion Thomasina Miers, Wahaca has quickly become one of the UK’s most popular restaurant chains. Constantly looking to the markets of Mexico for inspiration, the menu at Wahaca is a genuine celebration of Mexican street food, recreated with a bold attempt to channel quintessential Mexican flavours, using authentic ingredients as much as possible. What’s more, Wahaca will be offering bona fide Mums a complimentary margarita (or a glass of wine, beer or soft drink) when quoting the secret password – “Mum’s the word” – upon booking, or when ordering.
