A retailer which launched a Buckfast Easter egg says its website crashed due to the high demand.
D-Bees are selling the treat which comes with a chocolate egg, a miniature bottle of the notorious tonic wine and some Buckfast merchandise.
The company has attracted interest in the past after creating a Christmas Buckfast hamper and a Valentine’s collection of the drink.
But it appears to be the Easter package which has drawn the most support from the beverage’s loyal following.
Derek Brennan, who owns the shop, said: “The website crashed due to interest. We currently have 2,000 orders and we are expecting more interest later in the week.”
Brennan said his business, based in Armagh, Northern Ireland, hinges on the sales of the highly-caffeinated drink.
He said: “Buckfast is our most popular drink. Thankfully it’s not sold in supermarkets (in Northern Ireland) or we could not survive.”
The shop does not currently have any big plans for future special editions, although customers can buy birthday packages in-store.
The Buckfast Easter egg package retails at £9.99.
