Inspired by early beer recipes from across the world, Golden Era was founded in 2017. Long before wheat and barley became standard brewing ingredients, countries such as Peru, Ethiopia and South Africa used ancient grains to produce naturally gluten-free beer.
Following news that the global gluten-free beer market is predicted grow by 40 per cent per year, through 2023, Golden Era was launched with a mission to rethink modern beer. Brewed by the team at La Binchoise Brewery in Binche, Belgium, Golden Era beer is brewed with ancient grains of quinoa, buckwheat and millet to craft a lighter, gluten-free beer. Ultimately offering a natural, unpasteurised alternative for coeliacs, or for those leading gluten-free lifestyles, Golden Era’s ancient grain beer undergoes a five-week natural fermentation process: a modern interpretation of traditional techniques.
On pour, Golden Era’s ancient grain beer is hazy, opaque with a murky amber complexion, crowned with a quickly dissipating off-white head. On the nose, prominent citrus notes of orange zest and juice are joined by some standard sour beer aromas, toasted grain and flinty mineral notes. The juicy, sour citrus notes continue on the palate, complete with some subtle yeast savours alongside a complex earthy character. Further grassy hop and toasted grain savours eventually prevail. With medium body and low carbonation, Golden Era is light, concluded with a dry, slightly bitter finish.
