Strength: 4.8% ABV
Brewed: Hackney, London
Based in the heart of East London’s Hackney, Five Points Brewing Co. first started to become established in 2013, following the success of their brilliant pale ale. With eight beers to their name, it’s no surprise that Five Points has become one of London’s most popular independent breweries.
Brewed with East Kent Golding hops, the brewery’s Railway Porter is one of two porters, the other being London Smoke a much heavier, more experimental beer. When poured, Railway Porter is completely black with a foaming tan head and has very little carbonation. On the nose, prominent notes of rich chocolate and coffee are joined by aromas of caramel, raisins and an underlying note of liquorice continuing onto the palate. Elsewhere, an oily texture is joined by further notes of coffee bitterness alongside some subtle spice, roasted malts, and dark chocolate lending an intense richness, culminating with a dry, bitter finish. A fine example of quintessential London porter.
