Set up at the end of 2014, Cloudwater Brew Co. is a Manchester-based brewery that operates from an ex warehouse space, just a stone’s throw from the city centre. Initially inspired by a Copenhagen Beer Celebration, the brewery was set up with a respect for the changing of seasons at its very heart, specialising in producing a fine range of constantly changing seasonal beers. In celebration of the spring and summer for this year, the brewery has crafted a number of offerings, including their marvellous IPA Citra.
An exceptional British IPA, Cloudwater’s Spring/Summer offering is made using blend of hops (American Citra, British Pilgrim for bitterness, and Nelson Sauvin from New Zealand) and a selection of malts. However, it’s the Vermont Ale yeast that’s used, which gives this beer a lot of its juicy fruit character. When poured a cloudy orange body is present, joined by a huge nose of fruity aromas that include mango, peach, tangerine and passion fruit that are particularly notable, joined with a slight aroma of pine. As for the taste, the fruit juice freshness continues but is joined by a refreshing typical IPA bitterness that continues into the finish.
