The Snowman returns to London’s West End tonight for its 20th consecutive year.
With a magical mix of exquisite dancing and live music – including Walking in the Air – friendship is kindled as the boy and his snowman embark on a starry-skied adventure to the North Pole, where they meet dancing penguins, reindeer, Father Christmas, Ice Princess, and escape the clutches of Jack Frost.
Based on the book by Raymond Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson and produced by John Coates, The Snowman is a much-loved festive tradition of storytelling, spectacle and magic.
The Birmingham Repertory Theatre production has music and lyrics by Howard Blake, choreography by Robert North, direction by Bill Alexander, design by Ruari Murchison and lighting by Tim Mitchell.

“There are very few shows that enjoy such a remarkably long life and its continuing success and appeal to new generations of audiences is a tribute to the artistic team that created the show, the dancers, the children, the musicians and Birmingham Repertory Theatre who first staged the production back in 1993.
“I look forward to many more years of Walking in the Air with audiences old and new.”
The enchanting show tells the story of a young boy’s adventures when his snowman comes miraculously to life on Christmas Eve.
Featuring a dazzling array of colourful characters including dancing penguins, magical reindeer, a beautiful snow princess, her wicked beau Jack Frost and of course, Father Christmas himself, The Snowman is a Christmas treat for all the family and a perfect introduction to dance for the very young.
As well as the dates at The Peacock, The Snowman will tour around the UK this winter to the following venues: The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton (10-14 January), Milton Keynes Theatre (17-20 January) and Theatre Royal, Brighton (24-28 January).
