By William Bateman (WillBateman6611) There's only been a moment's pause for breath since 2014's Ophir but F.O.E.S are back, creating a consistently brooding, intense and chaotic experience in their 5-track return Antecendence. While not necessarily re-inventing the wheel, F.O.E.S know their genre and play to their strengths in the form of the EP's heavy, stop-start drums and distorted post-punk guitar. Their is method in the madness; controlled chaos behind the melodic vocals. Opening track 'Rival Thrones' is the epitome of their sound, a statement of intent. James Lorenzo's...
USA Nails, who feature former members of Oceansize, Kong, Hawk Eyes, Future of the Left & Silent Front have revealed initial details for their 2nd album. ‘No Pleasure’ will be released in November on Smalltown America. The band left an impression on the burgeoning London punk scene in early 2014 with a series of ferocious live shows and a slew of demo tracks. Their debut 'Sonic Moist' was soon to follow, a noisy, filthy, direct record; exactly what you'd expect from a band...
By Declan Roberts (@DeclanMR) Former frontman of psychedelic punk outfit Screaming Tea Party, Koichi Yamanoha, returns to the fray this week with a new album and a new pseudonym: Grimm Grimm. His debut, Hazy Eyes Maybe, kicks off in sporadic fashion with ‘Kazega Fuitara Sayonara’. The track sounds, in the best way possible, like a jam in a year 8 music classroom, with cymbals and cowbells popping all over the place. The result is mesmerizing and surprisingly calming, helping to...
Street art? Secret location? Free booze?! If any of these pique your interest (and frankly, we don’t know many that can resist the latter) then you are in luck, friends. This evening (Thursday 2 July) the team behind GraffitiStreet.com bring us their new show, ‘Underground’. The online street art gallery, founded in 2013, is on a mission to urbanise our lives, and switch more people on to the world of street art. Underground promises to be a night of fun: complimentary drinks,...
By Eleanor Stammeijer (@ElStammjam) 30.6.2015, The Forum, London Nothing builds buzz like an artist’s return after a cancelled show. Hozier was feeling a bit unwell for his original performance at The Forum, but this rescheduled, sold out show has the crowd enthused despite long queues in the evening heat. Irish trio Wyvern Lingo have joined Hozier for his UK and Ireland tour. Made up of Karen Cowley, Caoimhe Barry, and Saoirse Duana, the chemistry between them is palpable as they...
Crying kids, stitched eyeballs, waterboarding and severed heads - yep, Thy Art Is Murder are back in town, and they've brought a politically charged, shred-heavy video with them. The official video for 'Holy War', the title track from the Australian metallers' new album, is sure to raise a few eyebrows and turn a few stomachs. Heads may indeed roll over their extreme depiction of the war on terror, but let's not forget that at the centre of the carnage TAIM are...
Nottingham alt-rock trio Kagoule have premiered the new music video for latest single ‘Glue’. The tongue-in-cheek, medieval-themed video sees the band donning an assortment of handmade vintage garments, riding horses, chowing down on banquets and swilling down a goblet of wine or two. ‘Glue’ is taken from Kagoule’s highly-anticipated debut album, 'Urth', which is due for release on August 21st. That'll be a slice of tasty alternative, then.
By Kane Power (@ElHeavio) 24.6.15, The Roundhouse, London North London courts were overwhelmed last Thursday as thousands of people filed lawsuits against promoters All Tomorrow’s Parties, after being left partially deafened from a Mogwai concert. Local magistrates are in agreement that most of the cases have no basis, as anyone who still underestimated the Scottish post-rock giants after 20 years on the scene deserves to feel the full brunt of their noise. Mogwai graced The Roundhouse on Wednesday night to...
Canterbury stoner rockers OHHMS are back with two more monolithic slabs of depth-charge doom on their latest LP 'Cold'. The tracks, titled 'The Anchor' and 'Dawn of the Swarm', clock in at over thirty minutes, so expect a crushing, winding ride of slow builds and powerful riffs. OHHMS are also heading out on an extensive tour in support on 'Cold'. Dates can be found below. Keep posted to TLE for our review of 'Cold' to follow later this week. OHHMS Tour...
