Newcastle based alt-pop quintet Shields have filmed a series of live sessions in anticipation of their debut album, 'How Can We Fix This?' out via Kaleidoscope on Feb 26th. The band, who've recently secured a New Band of the Week feature with the Guardian and a BBC 6 Music session with Tom Robinson, are displaying their equally polished live sound in these videos, and giving people a flavour for the upcoming record. The first video for 'Alive' is also filmed...
By Miranda Hazrati (@mirandahazrati) Bristol Old Vic’s production of Welsh poet/novelist Owen Sheer’s play, originally written for Radio 4 and inspired by interviews with returning soldiers and their families, packs a powerful punch. Running at the Bush Theatre until February 13, the company’s six young actors relate the horrors of war in a heartbreaking story which is both immediate and highly disturbing. Three teenage boys from Bristol - Arthur, Taff and Hads - decide to join the army to “raise...

A bit more of a positive mood this week kicking off with Darondo ‘ Didn't I Treat You Right?' and straight into the Pink Martini version of Mas Que Nada. I love this song, my all time favourite version is on the Madlib Medicine Show Flight To Brazil album, but sadly that’s not on Spotify so you’ll have to make...
Following on from the release of the bands latest single 'Play Fire' in 2015 (their first single in close to two years), Enemies have now announced that they will be playing a short run of dates across the U.K in March 2016. The dates precede a US tour with Topshelf Records labelmates Weatherbox and Prawn. The dates (two of which will feature support from Delta Sleep) are as follows: 09.03.16 - Leeds, UK @ Nation Of Shopkeepers (Tickets) 10.03.16...
By Callum Towler (@CallumTowler) Always ahead of the curve, wasn't he? Almost annoying so. David Bowie’s interviews - to which I’ve dedicated a lot of time recently - reveal just how fiercely intelligent he was; always with one of those mysterious eyes fixed on the future. I wouldn’t say I’m a die-hard acolyte. Sadly, I wasn’t there in the 70′s to experience the fervent anticipation that was a new Bowie album. That “what on earth is he going to do...
By Alex Lodge (@alexlodgemusic | Insta @alexlodgemusic7) Alex Lodge is a music supervisor for film, TV and advertising at Studio 32 Music. According to the Internet, today is ‘Blue Monday’, which if you believe the tsunami of lifestyle articles flooding your timeline means that we all feel more miserable today than on any other day of the year. Admittedly, I finished this playlist before finding out about this so haven’t made any effort to counteract your inevitable feelings of emptiness with any significantly...
The cast of Friends have confirmed they will reunite for a two-hour special to be aired in the US on Sunday 21 February. The entire crew - Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry - are reported to be signed up to the one-off episode, which is being produced in honour of James Burrows, who directed 15 episodes of the New York-based comedy. Given the high-profile status of the cast it may prove challenging to get everyone...
Mogwai have announced the release of their new album, titled Atomic, slated for a 1st April release. The album is composed of reworked versions of the music recorded for the soundtrack to director Mark Cousin’s acclaimed documentary Atomic: Living In Dread and Promise, which first aired on BBC Four last summer. The band have premiered U-235, a new track lifted from the album. Constructed entirely of archive film, Atomic is an impressionistic kaleidoscope of the horrors of our nuclear times - protest marches,...
