Two of David Bowie’s out-of-this-world hits have topped a chart of the nation’s 40 favourites from his vast repertoire.
His 1969 single ‘Space Oddity’ was voted number one, with 21 per cent of the vote, closely followed by ‘Life On Mars’.
The 1983 smash-hit ‘Let’s Dance’, produced by legendary disco mastermind Nile Rodgers, was third, ahead of 1972’s ‘Starman’ and his 1985 duet with Mick Jagger ‘Dancing In The Street’.
A spokesman for research experts OnePoll.com, which conducted the survey of 1,000 adults, said: “David Bowie provided the soundtrack to millions of our lives.
“People have really struggled to take the news the in, but we’ve been left with the richest legacy of music.”
