A campaign to open London’s first Vagina Museum has been launched by Shoreditch based Mothership Group.
The museum will be focused on vaginas, vulvas and the people who have them and will look to rival a penis museum in Iceland as one of the World’s only museums dedicated to genitalia.
Mothership Group is this September launching a movement to actively encourage the growth of grass roots arts and culture in Shoreditch, in a bid to stem the tide of mass artist exodus from the area due to rising rents and growing chain shop monopolisation.
The Vagina Museum will host a Hidden Figures Screening on 30th August at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen with a panel afterwards with women of colour who work in STEM.
Hoxton Square will also welcome Emma Rees (11th Sept), who will be speaking about her bestselling book on ‘vulvanomics’, The Vagina: A Literary and Cultural History.
Over at The Book Club, team Vagina will host Hysterical (4th Sept), an all-female comedy night guaranteed to slay, following a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe.
The Book Club will also be hosting the scariest of all vaginas: one with TEETH! Join us Halloween eve (31st October) for this special screening of the cult classic film Teeth, with Q&A afterwards with Amanda DiGioia, expert in horror and feminism and author of “Childbirth and Parenting in Horror Texts: The Marginalized and the Monstrous”.
November will see London’s only science cabaret (22nd November) hosted by the Vagina Museum, with Dr Jiggs Bowson and Her Charming Science Friends.
