Rishi Sunak said it was ‘the worst of politics’ to link his comments attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s position on trans issues to Brianna Ghey’s case.
The former prime minister told the Popular Conservatism launch event that ordinary Britons thought ‘the wokery that’s going on is nonsense’.
The ex-prime minister has continued to promote her low-tax, free-market brand of conservatism since her brief stint in Downing Street.
The Home Office said the emergency cash is needed due to ‘unpredictable final costs, such as the asylum system’.
Rishi Sunak is already under pressure for failing to turn around the Tories’ opinion poll deficit.
Ex-science minister George Freeman said he resigned because his ministerial salary of nearly £120,000 would not cover his rising mortgage repayments.
The ex-PM used his Daily Mail column to endorse the Republican frontrunner and argue that he would back Ukraine.
Downing Street said the Welsh Government had not contributed to the deal with Tata to save jobs.
It comes as the Bibby Stockholm in Dorset has been beset by problems.
