We all know that the One Direction fan base can be an intense lot, but who knew they could be so generous?
On the eve of the British Asian Trust’s Annual Dinner, taking place on February 3rd at the Banqueting House, Whitehall, London, One Direction fans have raised over $10,000 for the British Asian Trust in honour of its ambassador Zayn Malik’s 22nd birthday.
Hitan Mehta, Executive Director of the British Asian Trust, said: “We thank One Direction fans for their generous contributions. We are honoured to have Zayn Malik as part of our British Asian Trust family; he is a young man with immense talent and a dedicated following. Our celebrity ambassadors have been champions for our causes and have helped us unlock the potential of the poor and vulnerable in South Asia.”
Organised by 1D fan, Amy, the description on the charity drive’s Just Giving page reads: “Zayn Malik is an ambassador to the British Asian Trust so we decided we would raise money for the trust in honour of Zayn’s 22nd birthday.”
The star has already thanked his fans for their donations.
Over 300 guests and celebrity guest ambassadors, including three times Wimbledon champion Boris Becker, actor Sanjeev Bhaskar OBE, BBC news presenter Mishal Husain, director Gurinder Chadha OBE, Hari Dillion of Holby City, Naughty Boy, and DJNihaal will attend this year’s dinner.
The British Asian Trust was founded in 2007, at the suggestion of HRH The Prince of Wales. The Trust provides funding to support high impact charities within the areas of education, health and livelihoods in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
