A police officer has appeared in court to deny assaulting a man by battering him over the head with a BATON.
PC Sunil Narr, 31, is accused of leaving the victim with head injuries after attacking him with the weapon following a police pursuit on August 1 last year.
Today (Thurs) the West Midlands Police officer appeared before Birmingham Crown Court where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
It is alleged that the man suffered head wounds after he was arrested following a chase in the Hillfields area of Coventry.
Narr, of Chaddesley Close, Oldbury, West Mids, spoke only to confirm his name and plead not guilty to a charge of ABH during a short three minute hearing.
Wearing a grey suit, he remained emotionless in the dock during proceedings before he was granted bail to reappear at the same court on June 3.
Judge Philip Parker QC told him: “This is a serious but a simple allegation.
“Your case will take place on June 3, in the meantime I will give you unconditional bail.
“I have little doubt you will attend.”
West Midlands Police confirmed the officer has not been suspended but removed from front line duties.
